Explore The Flagler Museum In Palm Beach
On Memorial Day weekend I decided to explore the Flagler Museum in Palm Beach.
The Flagler Museum, is also known as Whitehall. It is a a seventy-five room 100,000 square foot gilded age mansion in Palm Beach, Florida. Henry Morrison Flagler, built Whitehall for this third wife, Mary Lily Kenan. He gave it to Mary Lily as a wedding present.ย I have wanted to tour the Flagler Museum for a while now and I am so happy that I took the time to do so. It is absolutely exquisite.
Museum Tour
There are one of two ways you can tour the Flagler Museum. Via a self-guide brochure or by downloading the Flagler App. I recommend picking up a self-guide brochure as a reference but download the Flagler App for the audio tour.
Self-Guide Brochure
The self guide brochure is a black and white trifold that includes a map of the first floor, second floor, and the Flagler Kenan Pavilion. Along with a detailed description of each room in the Flagler Museum.
Flagler App
The Flagler App is available in English, Spanish, and French. When using the Flagler App.ย The museum tour actually begins on the front porch. Then moves from the grand hall inside to the library and throughout each room of the Flager Museum. The audio tour gives you a description of the room you are in, what it was used for, and points out specific artifacts and objects within the room.
I would recommend that you download the Flagler App the day before your visit. To ensure that you download all the content for the tour on your phone. Also bring headphones to listen to the tour. There were some visitors that had the tour playing on their phones on speaker phone. Which I thought was rude and took away from the experience from others in the area.

Flagler Kenan Pavilion
Right outside the Flagler Museum is the Flagler Kenan Pavilion. Which houses Henry Morrison Flagler’s private Railcar No. 91. It was built in 1886 and was called “A Palace on Wheels” it was one of two private railcars that Flagler would use to survey the Florida East Coast Railway. You are able to go inside and tour the railcar which includes a salon, bedroom, bathroom, guest quarters, and a kitchen.

Museum Store
The museum store online has a very limited amount of items for purchase. However, I was pleasantly surprised to see that the museum store onsite had a variety of items that you could purchase. If you’ve read my blog post on The Best Travel Souvenirs. Then you know that I don’t subscribe to the usual souvenirs that most people do. With that said, I picked up the classic novel Wuthering Heights and an ornament showcasing Whitehall.
Location, Hours & Tickets
The Flagler Museum is located at 1 Whitehall Way Palm Beach, FL 33480. It is open from 10AM to 5PM Tuesday – Saturday and from 12PM to 5PM on Sundays.ย Admission is $18 for adults and $10 for children. It’s recommended that you purchase your tickets online so that you can secure a date and time for your visit.
The Giant Kapok Tree
Last, but certainly not least. Right outside the gates of the Flagler Museum is a walkway. If you follow the trail it will lead you to the most majestic looking tree that you will ever seen in your life. A giant kapok tree.
It is definitely a sight to see.ย The giant kapok tree is on the grounds of the Royal Poinciana Chapel right along the lake trail. I couldn’t believe how massive this treee was. Just the roots alone were half my size.
