How To Motivate Yourself To Work Out

Even as a Personal Trainer, I myself go through times where I am not motivated to work out. On days when you don’t feel like working out. It can be a struggle to even get dressed to workout, let alone make it to the gym. I am going to share some tips with you on how to motivate yourself to work out.

Remember Your Why

Why are you working out? Do you have an event coming up? Are you getting ready to go on vacation? Do you want to lose weight? Do you want to build muscle? What is your why? When you are struggling with motivation to get up and go to the gym. Always go back to your why. If you can not remember your why. Then have a visual somewhere that you can see everyday in order to remember your why.

  • I have a client that I am working with that wants to lose weight. They have an outfit hanging in their closet that they want to wear when they get to their ideal weight. So they see that outfit everyday as a constant reminder of their why.
  • I have another client that I am working with that has a reunion coming up. They placed the invitation to their reunion where they could see it everyday. In order to remind them of what they are working towards.

No Regrets

I have never regretted working out. After every workout, I always feel good. I am always happy that I worked out and never regret it whatsoever. What I am going to regret is if I DON’T workout. So if I’m going to regret NOT working out. Then I mine as well do it.  It might take me a while to get to the gym, but I know that I will eventually get there. Because, I always remember no regrets.

When You Look Good, You Feel Good

There is a saying that goes when you look good, you feel good. Wearing cute workout clothes can be a big motivator for going to the gym. A lot of the clients that I work with are women. So they like wearing cute workout clothes to go to the gym. This doesn’t mean that you have to go out and buy a bunch of workout clothes. I’m sure you can put together a cute outfit with what you have at home. That makes you feel cute, comfortable, and confident as you walk into the gym.

When you look good, you feel good.

Pregame

I like to pregame before I go to the gym. When I’m not motivated at all to go to the gym. I think back to when I was in my early twenties and would be getting ready to go out with my friends. I would pregame before I went out. Do you remember when you were around that age? Getting dressed, listening to music, sipping on an alcoholic beverage and or taking a shot or two.

Basically, do the same thing before you go to the gym. Pregame by putting on a cute gym outfit, listen to some music that will get you in the mood to workout, and drink some pre-workout. If pre-workout isn’t your thing then have an energy drink or drink some coffee. I personally like to drink my BCAAs from 1 Up Nutrition before I go to the gym. Be sure to use my code Nohemy20 for 20% OFF.

Do whatever you have to do to pregame before the gym in order to get you in the mood to workout.

Partner Up

Invite someone to workout with you. Ask one of your family members, a close friend, and or even a coworker to workout with you. Who knows, you might even motivate them to workout. What’s nice about working out with someone. Is that you feed off of each others energy. You push and challenge each other more than you would have if you had worked out alone.

Take A Class

If you don’t have someone that you can workout with then consider signing up to take a class. There are a variety of workout classes that you can sign up for. For example, yoga, zumba, pilates, and barre. Just to name a few. By signing up for an exercise class. You will have the opportunity to workout with a professional, meet new friends, and motivate yourself to workout.

Switch Things Up

So the last tip that I have for you is to switch things up. Lets say that I’m not motivated to go to the gym. Then I will switch up my entire workout routine. I’ll do something different then whatever I had planned to do that day. I’ll either take a rest day, do yoga, and or go for a run. If I was planning on training legs that day, then I’ll train my upper body instead. Switch up your workout routine so that you don’t get complacent.

Personal Training

Last but not least, if all else fails. Then consider hiring a personal trainer. A personal trainer can help hold you accountable for working out, help keep you motivated to work out, and educate you on how to work out. If you are interested in personal training and want to work with me.
