A Tour Of My Closet

A Tour Of My Closet

A Tour Of My Closet

I recently did a tour of my closet on my YouTube channel. I wanted to compliment this video with a blog post. In order to go more in depth into how I organize my closet. I hope that by giving you a tour of my closet. You might be inspired to organize your closet.

Closet Organization

This is the first time in my life that my closet is organized in such a way that I am obsessed with it. I enjoy walking into my closet everyday and picking out the clothes that I am going to wear. Everything has a designated spot, is easy to get to, and put away. I absolutely love it. Now this didn’t happen overnight. It has taken a lot of trial and error to get my closet this organized.

Dresses

I have all of my dresses on one side of my closet and they are color coordinated. Starting with beige, then moving into white, grey, black, blue, pink, and red. All of my clothes are color coordinated in this order. My dresses are followed by my night gowns and then my halloween costumes.

Shoes

My shoes are stored in clear plastic shoe boxes that I found at Target. On shelves that are hung at eye level. Most people have their shoes out on display. But I prefer to keep my shoes in clear plastic shoe boxes for two reasons. The first, so that they do not collect dust. The second, to prevent smelly shoe odors from entering my closet. I purposely hung the shelves that my shoes are on at eye level so that there is no clutter on the floor. Also, the clear plastic show boxes make it easy to see what shoes I have stored.

Purses

I have my expensive handbags displayed on the top shelf in my closet. All of my other less expensive handbags and or totes. I have hanging on a hook within arm’s reach. These are bags that I use most often for running around and or doing errands. Whereas my more expensive bags, I use less often for date nights and or special events. Hence, the reason why they are the top shelf of my closet.

Hamper

I am obsessed with my Hamper. I had to go thru a few before I found one that I really liked. It is a double hamper, with removable liner bags, and a magnetic lid. I got it in grey to match the grey walls in my master bedroom. It’s collapsable, the liner bags are easy to put in and take out, and there are even labels inside to help you sort your clothes more easily. I’m considering getting a second hamper in order to sort my bathroom towels and gym clothes from my casual clothes.

Tops

I previously arrange my tops where they were all color coordinated. However, I just made a slight change. I now have my tops organized by type and then they are color coordinated. For example, I have all of my sleeveless shirts together. Then I have them color coordinated. I did the same for my short sleeve shirts, long sleeve shirts, sweaters, and jackets. Although having all of my tops color coordinated previously was more visually appealing. Having them organized now by type and then by color has proven to be more efficient when getting ready. I am able to find what I am looking for a lot faster.

Bottoms

I have my bottoms arranged similar to my tops. By type and then they are color coordinated. I start from my skirts, then move into shorts, capris, and end with jeans.

Hangers

I prefer to hang the majority of my clothes. Because I do not like the creases and wrinkles that you get when you fold your clothes. The only clothes that I fold are my bras, underwear, and socks. I also fold my heavier sweaters and jackets for when I travel to cold climates.Β As most of you know, I live in Florida. With that said, I do not wear my heavier sweaters and jackets often. So it makes more sense for me to have them folded.

I know that the slim velvet hangers are very popular to hang your clothes on. Because they save space. But I prefer the basic plastic white hangers. Because they are affordable, easy to replace because you can find them everywhere, and I really like how sturdy the pant hangers are with the clips. I’ll link them here for you to see for yourself.

I once read that majority of people wear 20% of their closet 80% of the time. With that said, why do I need velvet space saving hangers if I only wear 20% of my wardrobe. The plastic white hangers will take up more space and make your closet look fuller. Preventing you from buying additional clothes that you do not need and won’t end up wearing.

Hats

On the inside of my closet, above my closet doors, I have about two feet of space. I didn’t know where to store my hats and one day I just took it upon myself to hammer some nails in that area above my closet doors and hang my hats there. They are out of the way, have a designated spot, and are able to keep their shape. Sometimes I even forgot that they are up there, that is until I need a hat. I am able to hang five hats in this spot and could easily fit two more if I wanted. But I don’t own a lot of hats.
