Hair Care Routine

I constantly get compliments on my hair. I am always asked what products do I use? How do I care for it? How often do I get it cut? So, on and so forth…if you are curious about my hair care routine then keep reading.

Keratin Treatment

Every three to six months, I get a keratin treatment done on my hair. This treatment chemically straightens your hair and washes out over time. Naturally, I have very thick, course, curly hair. With this treatment, regardless of the weather or the moisture in the air my hair will stay straight. I get this treatment done primarily because it doesn’t take as long for me to get ready and style my hair. I go more into detail about the keratin treatment in this post.

If you’re thinking about getting the keratin treatment done on your hair. Do your research. Don’t just take my word for it. Even though I’ve had a great experience, everyone’s hair is different. Consult your hair stylist, before embarking on getting this treatment done.

I usually wash my hair once a week, sometimes twice a week. Depending on how sweaty my hair gets at the gym. Due to the fact that I get the Keratin Treatment done on my hair. I have to use a paraben free and sulfate free shampoo and conditioner. I currently use OGX Ever Straight Brazilian Kertain Therapy shampoo and conditioner to wash my hair. In the past, I used Hask Keratin Protein shampoo and conditioner.

Deep Condition

After I take a shower, I like to put Coconut Oil in my hair as a deep conditioner. I lather my hair in coconut oil starting with my scalp and then work my way through all the way towards the ends.

As far as styling, after I put coconut oil in my hair I will use the “Wet Brush” to comb through my hair. My hair stylist recommended it years ago and I haven’t looked back. Its the best at detangling your hair.

Next, I like to use a comb to make a center or side part. Then, I’ll let my hair air dry for a couple of hours. I try to limit how much heat I put to my hair. Once my hair is dry, I use a Chi Straightener to straighten my hair. When I go to put on the finishing touches, I like to use a little bit coconut oil to tame those unruly baby hairs that tend to stick out.
