I have gone to my fair share of conferences. With that said there are certain things that I always take with me, when I go to a conference. Below I have created a conference survival guide with a list of must haves when you go to a conference.
I use to write in a notebook at first. Now I just take notes on my cell phone. I’ve seen where others will bring their laptop and take notes. Do whatever works best for you. If you do end up bringing a notebook don’t forget to bring a pen as well.
Portable Power Bank
We live in the digital age, you are going to need a portable power bank if you plan on doing the following.
- Using the GPS on your phone to get to where the conference is being held.
- Take photos and video for social media.
- Attend the conference with a friend, you two will split up and go to different workshops within the conference and end up messaging each other back and forth.
All of these things are going to drain your battery. Be sure to bring a portable power bank with you to charge up your phone and or any other electronic devices that you bring with you.
Bring business cards with you. This is a great opportunity to network with other like minded individuals. As you meet and greet with others, when appropriate exchange contact information. That way you an follow up with one another and keep in touch.
Sometimes food will be provided and or you can buy from local vendors on premise during a lunch break. However, I always like to carry a few snacks with me for in between sessions that way I’m not starving by lunchtime.
In my experience it has always been cold at these conferences. But then again I am almost always wearing a dress so I really have no one to blame but myself. Anyhow, I would recommend that you bring a sweater with you for if you get cold.
